Major Ferro-Alloy Producers In India Strengthen Facilities
FACOR Constructs Independent Plant To Generate 100 MW Of Electric Power With Completion On End This Year
Major ferro-alloy producers in India have been actively proceeding the countermeasures to secure electric power for their own consumption. FACOR and Facor Alloys construct an independent electric power generation plant with capacity to generate 100 MW of electric power and this construction is scheduled to complete in December of 2010. This project is a joint venture and Facor Power will be established by these two Indian companies of FACOR and Facor Alloys.

FACOR has been producing 150,000 tons per annum of ferro-chrome at the two plants, comprising of one plant (operating one 45 MVA electric furnace), located in Orissa State, and another plant (being managed by Facor Alloys), located in Andhra Pradesh State. In order to cope with a recent tightness on supply of electric power in India, the Government of Andhra Pradesh State is making up a plan to reduce the supply of electric power by 30%.

As the countermeasures for the tight situation of electric power in India, FACOR previously installed a large-type diesel electric power generator at their plant and managed a shortage of electric power for drought season. However, in this time, FACOR is intending to construct one large independent electric power generation plant with a substantial capacity.

In India, IMFA (Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd.) has possessed one thermoelectric power generation plant by coal with capacity to generate 110 MW of electric power at the Choudwar plant and is now expanding the capacity by 30 MW to 140 MW with its completion in March of 2010. This expansion of the capacity to generate electric power has aimed to secure necessary volumes of electric power for operation of one new large 30 MVA electric furnace to be completed in March of 2010 at the Choudwar plant. Also, IMFA has planned to construct newly the second thermoelectric power generation plant (to generate 120 MW) with a target to complete it in the next two years and half.

The projects to increase steel production are progressing in India and, therefore, it is required to produce more ferro-alloys as sub-raw materials for steel production but India has been in principle suffering from a shortage of electric power. Accordingly, the private sectors in India have to be positive on projects to construct independent electric power generation plants.
